Reader's Guide
The criminal organization led by Omar Navarro operates with a strict hierarchy. Marty and Wendy Byrde serve as money launderers, moving cartel funds through legitimate businesses in the Lake of the Ozarks region. The cartel's enforcer, Del Rio, appears only in season 1 as a lieutenant. After Del's death, Helen Pierce becomes the cartel's legal representative. The Byrdes' proposal to build a casino represents an expansion of their laundering operation, which brings them into direct contact with local criminals like the Snell family, who run a heroin business in the area. FBI agent Maya Miller's investigation of the casino threatens to expose the entire operation, forcing Navarro to make increasingly desperate decisions to protect his empire.
