Franchise Origins and Leadership

The Ottawa Titans emerged as a direct result of significant league restructuring following the merger between the Can-Am League and the Frontier League in late 2019. While the previous franchise, the Ottawa Champions, folded after failing to secure a buyer, a new ownership group led by former Winnipeg mayor Sam Katz, the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group, and lawyer Jacques J.M. Shore secured an expansion grant in September 2020. The team name was selected through a public contest, honoring local sports traditions with colors matching the city's hockey and football teams. Steve Brook, a highly decorated manager who previously led the River City Rascals to championships, was hired as the inaugural skipper in October 2020. However, global health restrictions forced a delay in their debut; the planned 2021 season was deferred, leading to a unique arrangement where Canadian players formed a temporary combined squad known as Équipe Québec before the Titans officially launched their standalone operations in 2022.

After a road-opening victory against the Joliet Slammers on May 13, 2022, the Titans finally took to their home field at Ottawa Stadium (then JetForm Park) for their inaugural home opener on May 24. Facing the Evansville Otters, the team delivered a dominant defensive performance that set an early tone of competitiveness. Pitcher Evan Grills anchored the effort by throwing eight scoreless innings while striking out fifteen batters, leading the Titans to a narrow 2–0 victory.
