Lore & Background

The arena was built as part of a $1.05-billion plan to redo the Orlando Centroplex. It is located at the southwest corner of Church Street and Hughey Avenue. The naming rights were held by Amway, which exercised its right of first refusal for a $40-million deal announced on August 3, 2009. On December 20, 2023, the venue was renamed Kia Center in partnership with Kia America.

In Their Own Story

The arena hums with a low-frequency vibration before the tip-off, a sound born from thousands of fans shifting in their seats and the distant thud of warm-up balls. Under the bright LED lights, the polished hardwood gleams, reflecting the towering glass walls that separate the court from the downtown skyline. A young fan in a worn Shaq jersey stands near the baseline, eyes wide as the current stars sprint through drills, the squeak of sneakers echoing sharply against the concrete. The air smells faintly of popcorn and anticipation. As the crowd roars for the opening tip, the modern structure feels timeless, a vessel holding decades of Orlando Magic history in every beam and seat.

Reader's Guide

The arena has hosted the 2012 NBA All-Star Game, the 2015 ECHL All-Star Game, and NCAA tournament games in 2014, 2017, and 2023. It also hosted ArenaBowl XXVI in 2013. WWE held the 2016 Royal Rumble there and used the venue as the WWE ThunderDome from August 21 to December 7, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
