History

The club began as an amateur side in regional leagues. Under president Noël Le Graët, who took over in 1972, Guingamp achieved three promotions: to the Third Division in 1976, to the Second Division in 1977, and later to Ligue 2. The club turned professional in 1984. The Stade de Roudourou opened in 1990, with Paris Saint-Germain as the opponent in the first match.

Guingamp's first major honour came in 2009, winning the Coupe de France as a second-division side by defeating Rennes 2–1. They repeated the feat in 2014, this time as a top-flight club, beating Rennes 2–0. The club also won the 1996 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Guingamp gained promotion to Ligue 1 in 1995, 2000, and 2013; their longest top-flight stay lasted from 2013 to 2019.

They were relegated after the 2018–19 season, finishing 20th. In that same season, Guingamp reached the Coupe de la Ligue final, losing 4–1 on penalties to RC Strasbourg after a goalless 120 minutes. Relegation was confirmed on 12 May 2019 with a 1–1 draw against Rennes. The club has served as a springboard for players such as Didier Drogba, Florent Malouda, Fabrice Abriel, and Vincent Candela, and for managers including Guy Lacombe, Francis Smerecki, and Erick Mombaerts.

Current president is Bertrand Desplat; former president Noël Le Graët is president of the French Football Federation. Guingamp also fields a women's team in Division 1 Féminine and a reserve team in CFA2.
