History
Before the pier existed, a rock formation called Devil's Gate sat on that spot. Local residents pushed the city to build a pier in 1908, and over time it has been known as the Grand Avenue Pier, the Belmont Heights Pier, and Devil's Gate Pier. In 2005, it became the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier, and an inscription was added at the entrance honoring all U.S. armed forces members. The pier appeared in a sixth-season episode of Dexter, where a dead man filled with snakes is found there, standing in for a Miami beach.
