Last updated
The Tokyo Aquatics Centre is an indoor swimming venue located in the Mori- Beach Park in the Tatsumi area of Kōtō ward, eastern Tokyo. It was constructed for the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics, with a capacity of up to 12,000 spectators. The facility includes two swimming pools and a diving pool, and its roof was built on the ground and raised to a height of 37 metres.
History
Construction began in April 2017 and was completed in 2019 by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. During construction, the discovery of manipulated seismic isolation damper data from KYB led to the replacement of the building's hydraulic oil dampers. The opening scheduled for 22 March 2020 for the Youth Olympic Cup was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the centre was inaugurated on 24 October 2020 with a sports exhibition.
