Marit Bjørgen, born 21 March 1980, is a retired Norwegian cross-country skier. She holds the all-time record for most individual victories in the Cross-Country World Cup, with 114 wins, and is also the most successful sprinter in the competition’s history, having won 29 sprint events. Competing in five Olympic Games, Bjørgen collected five medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics, raising her career total to 15. That tally makes her the most decorated Winter Olympian ever and the third-most decorated Olympian across all seasons. She first announced her retirement on 6 April 2018, after the 2017–18 season. She won her second gold in the 2 × 7.5-kilometre on 19 February 2010. Bjørgen was also part of the 4 × 5 km relay team that won gold on 25 February 2010. She closed out her trip in Vancouver by taking silver 0.3 seconds behind Poland's Justyna Kowalczyk in the women's 30 km event. Bjørgen won gold at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi in the 15 km skiathlon, the Team sprint and the 30km freestyle race.
