The 1974 Athletics, managed by Alvin Dark, won the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After the series, pitcher Catfish Hunter filed a grievance claiming the team violated his contract by failing to make timely payment on an insurance policy during the 1974 season. On December 13, 1974, arbitrator Peter Seitz ruled in Hunter's favor.
