Set in the Minecraft Overworld, the game features a procedurally generated world with biomes, villages, piglin outposts, and the Well of Fate, which serves as the player's spawnpoint and fast-travel hub. Plot
The player, mining in a cave, is approached by three Hosts named Action, Knowledge, and Foresight, who ask for help saving the Overworld from a war with the Nether. After a tutorial, the player saves villages from piglin invasions, destroys three nether outposts, and then destroys nine Nether portals across three areas, each guarded by a piglin boss: the Devourer, the Beast, and the Unbreakable. After all portals and bosses are defeated, the player fights the final boss, the Great Hog. The Great Hog's last attempt to destroy the Well of Fate backfires, sending its army back to the Nether and killing the boss. A celebration follows, but warrior villagers resent pacifist villagers, creating a rift, and the Hosts depart, leaving the world to the hero.

Development began in 2018. The game was announced at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on June 12, 2022, with a subsequent trailer confirming additional platforms. Mojang Studios collaborated with Blackbird Interactive, a team founded by former Relic Entertainment employees known for the Homeworld series. Following the success of Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Legends was released on April 18, 2023, for multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch. On January 10, 2024, Mojang announced that no further updates would be released.
Reception
Critics gave Minecraft Legends mixed reviews, calling it a decent franchise addition with uneven execution. While some found the gameplay fun, others deemed it repetitive and shallow.
