Development

Black Lab Games, based in Perth, Australia, developed the game. After their previous title Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy, publisher Slitherine asked about intellectual properties they wanted to work on. Director Paul Turbett listed several IPs including Battlestar Galactica, leading to permission to use it. Turbett created guiding principles for an authentic experience before story or gameplay design. The core team consisted of five people, with additional contributors such as composer Ash Gibson Greig. Voice acting was sourced and recorded by Slitherine in Los Angeles.

Release

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock first appeared on 16 May 2017, targeting PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for a summer launch. The PC edition arrived on 31 August 2017, but the console versions slipped to 8 December 2017. A Nintendo Switch port was revealed on 25 September 2019 and hit stores on 8 October 2019. Multiple downloadable content packs followed. In November 2025, Black Lab Games and Slitherine Games announced the game and its DLCs would be removed from digital storefronts later that month, without explanation.

Reception

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock received generally favorable reviews according to Metacritic. Caley Roark of IGN noted that the game checks many boxes for sci-fi tactics and strategy, with good controls and attention to detail as a proper Battlestar Galactica game, though graphics and interface issues in the strategy layer were less impressive. Matt Purslow of PCGamesN found the tutorial finicky and some mechanical presentation off, but praised the novelty of a tie-in game that captures the feeling of being on the back foot central to Battlestar Galactica. Peter Parrish of PC Invasion described compelling tactical fleet combat combined with a middling strategic campaign layer and carefully applied Galactica aesthetics. Matt S. of Digitally Downloaded stated the game serves a niche for fans of both strategy games and Battlestar Galactica, calling it brilliant as a complement to the franchise despite lacking solo flight and ground missions.
