Gameplay
Rockin' Pretty offers four instruments: guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums, each with a distinct play style. Stages contain one or two songs, and players choose from easy, normal, or hard difficulty. An AutoPlay mode lets the computer complete a stage. Players earn points by clearing songs and collecting stars, which pile on the top screen; dragging the stylus collects stars that exceed the top line. Points are spent in shop menus to customize outfits and instruments. The game supports local wireless multiplayer.
Plot
Mai, the guitarist of the band Starlight, is a happy, energetic girl who has dreamed of entering the Rockin' Pretty contest. She practiced guitar alone until meeting Kara, an athletic tomboy who leads Starlight and attends the same school as Mai. Mio, the intelligent and serious keyboardist, aspires to become a great musician like her parents. Reena, the happy-go-lucky drummer, enjoys strange things and goes to school with Mio. Kenneth, Kara's brother and a former Rockin' Pretty participant, works at the Instrument Center and assembled Starlight. Michelle, another former participant, works at the Dress-up Boutique and helps the band get a gig at Star Cafe. DJ H-Star is the contest's MC and owns Star Cafe. Each year, bands gather nationwide for the Rockin' Pretty contest; winners receive a record deal, hits, and stardom. Mai watches a Rockin' Pretty DVD at Rockin' Hits Studio, wishing to enter but lacking a band. Ken introduces her to Kara, who needs a new guitarist. The group performs "See you again" and accepts Mai. They perform at Central Park but are overshadowed by the boy band The Dreamboats. Seeking more venues, Starlight visits Michelle for help.
