The NHL Quarter-Century teams were created to recognize the top players from each franchise over the first 25 years of the 21st century. Each franchise's selections were made by a panel consisting of members of the media, retired players, and executives associated with that specific franchise. The individual team rosters were released in a staggered fashion from December 30, 2024 through January 31, 2025.

The NHL Quarter-Century teams serve as a formal recognition of the best performers for each franchise during the first quarter of the 21st century. The selection process involved franchise-specific panels of media, retired players, and executives, ensuring local expertise. After all 32 franchise teams were announced, a fan-voted overall NHL Quarter-Century team was revealed in May 2025, with eligibility limited to players who had been named to a club's First Team. This two-tier structure—franchise teams followed by a league-wide fan vote—allowed both regional and league-wide recognition of the era's top talent.
