Playing career
Deveaux made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 27, 2008, against the Ottawa Senators. He also played for the Toronto Marlies, Chicago Wolves, and Springfield Falcons of the AHL, as well as the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL. In a February 12, 2010 game between the Marlies and the Manitoba Moose in Winnipeg, Deveaux was alleged to have been taunted with racial slurs by a fan while in the penalty box after a melee; he threw a roll of hockey tape toward the heckler and was suspended for three games by the AHL. He signed a one-year contract to return to the Chicago Wolves on August 24, 2010. On August 16, 2011, Deveaux signed as an unrestricted free agent with the New York Rangers. While playing for the Rangers, he was suspended by the NHL for three games on November 25, 2011, for an illegal check to the head of Tomáš Fleischmann in a game against the Florida Panthers on November 23, 2011. Eligible to return December 1, 2011, he was instead assigned to the Connecticut Whale of the AHL by Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather. On July 9, 2012, Deveaux signed a one-year contract as a free agent with the Panthers and was assigned to their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, during the NHL lockout. On March 19, 2013, in a game against the Texas Stars in Cedar Park, Texas, he was accidentally high-sticked in the face; as he fell, he slid under teammate Nolan Yonkman, who accidentally stepped on his face, causing a cut requiring dozens of stitches.
