Herbert Keyshawn Jones, born October 6, 1998, is an American basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans. A former Alabama Crimson Tide standout, he was named SEC Player of the Year and a third-team All-American as a senior in 2021. Jones made the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2022, and in 2024 he earned a spot on the NBA All-Defensive First Team as the only player on it who was not a center.

Background

Jones grew up in Alabama and began playing varsity ball in seventh grade at Sunshine High School in Newbern, where his father was head coach, reaching the Class 1A state finals in 2015 alongside his older brother Walter Jr. He later moved to Hale County High School in Moundville, averaging 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds as a senior and leading the school to its first state title. At Alabama he set a program record with 23 charges drawn as a freshman. After fracturing his left wrist on January 29, 2020, he returned in a cast and made two free throws one-handed in an 88–82 win over LSU. As a senior he was also the SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
