Lore & Background

The 2022–23 season marked a significant turning point for the Washington Capitals. After making the playoffs every year since the 2013–14 season, the team was officially eliminated from contention on April 4, 2023, when the Florida Panthers beat the Buffalo Sabres 2–1. This ended an eight-season playoff streak, which had been the longest active run in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, the Capitals saw their streak of 15 consecutive winning seasons come to a close. Only eleven other NHL teams have ever achieved a winning streak of that length. The regular season schedule was released on July 6, 2022, setting the stage for what would become a historic season for the franchise in a different way.
