Lore & Background
Tinordi was born in Burnsville, Minnesota, while his father Mark was captain of the Minnesota North Stars. The family later settled in Millersville, Maryland, after Mark was traded to the Washington Capitals. In his youth, Tinordi played in the 2004 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Washington Little Capitals.
He served as captain of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program and attended Ann Arbor Pioneer High School. Tinordi committed to the University of Notre Dame but instead played for the London Knights of the OHL for the 2010–11 season. He made his NHL debut on March 16, 2013, with the Montreal Canadiens against the New Jersey Devils, recording an assist.
In the 2015–16 season, after being assigned to the AHL on a conditioning stint, he was traded to the Arizona Coyotes. Later that season, he received a 20-game suspension for violating the NHL/NHLPA Performance Enhancing Substances Program, stating he did not knowingly take a banned substance. Tinordi signed with the Nashville Predators on July 1, 2018, and was named captain of their AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. He recorded his first NHL goal on January 29, 2020, against the Washington Capitals.
He was claimed off waivers by the Boston Bruins in February 2021 and later signed with the New York Rangers. He was claimed by the Chicago Blackhawks in October 2022, where he recorded his first multi-goal game. He later signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Calgary Flames.
