History

In June 2012, Brazil's motorsport authority, the CBA, gave the site its approval. The project then moved to the FIA, where a computer system checked the basic requirements. After that system gave the green light, an FIA inspector visited in October 2013 and confirmed the track could host international Touring and GT races. A year later, the pit paddock opened, offering space for about 500 VIP guests with a prime view of the track and the race control tower. March 2015 saw the addition of the Capirinha and Ferradura corners, which made the circuit tougher and quicker for professional events. That same year, a 2.5-kilometer off-road course with 18 obstacles was built to test 4x4 vehicles and big-trail motorcycles. In April 2017, Velo Città ran three events at once: Mitsubishi Motorsports, Mitsubishi Outdoor, and the Mitsubishi Cup. That August, it held its first Stock Car race, Brazil's top racing series, alongside the Mercedes-Benz Challenge and the Brasileiro de Marcas championship. A temporary grandstand let fans watch closely. A second Stock Car race came in September 2018, and in 2019 the track hosted a third Stock Car event plus the Old Stock Race, marking the category's 40th anniversary.
