La Vida Bohème is a rock band from Caracas, Venezuela, formed by Rafael Perez, Daniel De Sousa, Sebastian Ayala, and Henry D'Arthenay in late 2006 and mid-2007. The band takes influence from late '80s punk, disco, funk, electronic music, jazz, salsa, reggae and dance music. Their first recording is a self-titled EP that includes three songs (Aprendiendo.a.apagar.un.cigarro.con.los.pies, Luz and I.p.o.s.t.e.l.).

In 2008, they won the Festival Nuevas Bandas (New Bands Festival of Venezuela). Their debut album, Nuestra, earned them a Grammy nomination and two Latin Grammy wins. Their song "Radio Capital" is featured in Grand Theft Auto V, "Buen Salvaje" in FIFA 12, and "Manos Arriba" in FIFA 21.

History

The first drummer came up with the band's name during a rehearsal in downtown Caracas. While the name has no specific meaning, a common story links it to Giacomo Puccini's opera La bohème. In 2007, the group played shows at local clubs and festivals. Their first release, the three-song La Vida Bohème EP, was made available as a free download through the netlabel Fanzinatra.

Their debut full-length, Nuestra, was recorded and produced in Venezuela by Rudy Pagliuca, the guitarist for Malanga, mixed by Leonel Carmona, and mastered in Argentina by Andrés Mayo. It was among the first Venezuelan albums offered as a free download, via the label All of the Above. A limited run of CDs came out in the summer of 2010, sold directly by the band at concerts and other events. A licensing agreement with Nacional Records later handled distribution in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Two music videos were made for singles from Nuestra: "Radio Capital" came out in December 2009, and "Danz!" followed in August 2010. In November 2010, YouTube removed the "Danz!" video, citing nudity. In September 2011, the Latin Recording Academy gave the band two Latin Grammy nominations: Nuestra for Best Rock Album and "Radio Capital" for Best Rock Song. That November, Nuestra also earned a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album.

The second album, Será, was finished in February 2013 and released on May 14. In November 2013, La Vida Bohème won its first Latin Grammy, taking Best Rock Album. The group was named Best Rock Artist at the 2014 Pepsi Venezuela Music Awards. The third album, La Lucha, was produced by Eduardo Cabra Martínez (known as Visitante from Calle 13) and recorded in Puerto Rico, hitting shelves in March 2017.

It completed a trilogy whose title sequence—Nuestra, Será, La Lucha—roughly means "Ours Will Be The Fight." In 2020, the band dropped its first single since La Lucha, "Último Round." A few months later came "Acción (o Decreto de Guerra a Muerte a los Traidores del Rock Latinoamericano)," which marked a clear shift in style. That was followed by "¡Plis, Plis, Plis!" and "Miami S&M." The year's final track, "Control," closed out the 2020 EP Fr€€$$r. Every song on that EP had its own music video.
