Senius and Aschius
Legendary twin sons of Remus who founded Siena.
Senius and Aschius are the legendary twin founders of Siena, Italy. According to traditions that cannot be documented before the 16th century, they were the sons of Remus and thus nephews of Romulus. After Romulus killed their father during the founding of Rome, the brothers fled on horseback—Senius on a black horse and Aschius on a white one—giving the city its coat of arms, the Balzana. The legend served to grant Siena a noble ancestry akin to Rome's.
