Key facts and history
Magni is the son of Thor and the giantess Járnsaxa.[2] In the Prose Edda book Skáldskaparmál, Magni appears in the myth of Thor's battle with the giant Hrungnir.[2] After Thor killed Hrungnir with Mjöllnir, the giant's foot lay over Thor's neck.[2] All the Æsir came and could not lift the foot off Thor.[2]
Magni, then three nights old, cast the foot off Thor.[2] Thor gave Magni the horse Gold-Mane, which Hrungnir had possessed.[2] Odin said Thor did wrong to give the good horse to the son of a giantess.[2] John Lindow draws a parallel between Magni and Odin's son Váli, as both have a giantess mother and achieve a feat at a very young age.[2]
Apart from his role after Ragnarök, nothing else is known about Móði.[2]
