In Kabbalistic tradition and later folklore, Lilith evolved into the queen of night demons, known as Lilim. She is often depicted as a seductress or a vampire-like entity that drains the life force of men in their sleep. However, her most enduring role is that of a child-stealer; she is said to strangle infants and cause miscarriages unless protected by amulets bearing her name or images of three archangels (Sandalphon, Raphael, and Gabriel). Despite her fearsome reputation, some modern interpretations have reclaimed her as a symbol of female independence.
