Master Detective Archives: Rain Code
A fantasy-mystery adventure set in the rainy city of Kanai Ward.
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, a fantasy-mystery adventure game, launched on the Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2023. It was developed by Too Kyo Games and Spike Chunsoft, with Spike Chunsoft also handling publishing. The creative team includes veterans of the Danganronpa series: writer Kazutaka Kodaka, artist Rui Komatsuzaki, and composer Masafumi Takada. An enhanced version reached PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on July 18, 2024, in Japan, and globally on October 1.
The story follows Yuma Kokohead, a detective trainee who has lost his memory. He teams up with a shinigami named Shinigami to investigate Kanai Ward, a city trapped under endless rain and controlled by the Amaterasu Corporation. As murder cases unfold, Yuma and his fellow Master Detectives—each with supernatural abilities—work to uncover Kanai Ward's Ultimate Secret and solve the Great Global Mystery. Amaterasu's enforcers constantly interfere with investigations, forcing Yuma to enter an alternate dimension called the Mystery Labyrinth. There, he must gather evidence and prove the culprits' identities.
**Gameplay**
The game is structured across six chapters, alternating between real-world exploration in Kanai Ward and puzzle-solving inside the Mystery Labyrinth. In Kanai Ward, players can advance the main story or take on optional side quests called Requests. Interacting with objects, talking to characters, and completing tasks earns Detective Points, which raise Yuma's skill level and grant Skill Points. These Skill Points unlock abilities used in the Mystery Labyrinth. Players can also find Shinigami statues to unlock optional dialogues with side characters.
When a crime occurs, players search for clues that become Solution Keys for the Mystery Labyrinth. Quick time events and minigames, sometimes involving other detectives' powers, are also required. Once enough Solution Keys are collected, the game enters the Mystery Labyrinth—a spiritual representation of the case. Here, players choose correct paths, answer questions using Solution Keys, and respond to rapid-fire queries. They face Mystery Phantoms, manifestations of those hiding the truth, in Reasoning Death Match sections. These resemble Danganronpa's Nonstop Debates: players dodge statements fired by the phantom and strike contradictory ones with the right Solution Key. Some statements can be repelled without evide
