Lore & Background
A Space for the Unbound is a two-dimensional side-scrolling game where the player controls Atma, an Indonesian student, as he explores a suburban town, interacts with people and animals, and solves puzzles. Atma gains the ability to 'space dive' into people's minds using a red book, helping them confront trauma through puzzles. Later, he can 'riftdive' to different times in a location. The game includes minigames, stealth sections, and cross-examination scenes similar to Ace Attorney, and features cats that the player can pet and name.
Reader's Guide
The game's plot follows Atma and his girlfriend Raya, who create a bucket list and discover reality-altering powers. Raya's powers cause anomalies, and Atma uses space diving to restore sanity. The story reveals that the events occur within Raya's mind, and that Nirmala, a young girl from Atma's dreams, is a split-off part of Raya. A flashback shows that Atma drowned trying to save Raya as a child, and Raya's trauma, compounded by an abusive father, led her to separate her hope and positivity into Nirmala. Atma helps Raya confront her past, and she awakens in a hospital, planning to move with her mother. A post-credits scene shows Raya visiting the spot where Atma died.
