Plot
Rainbow Dash wants to ride the Wild Blue Yonder roller coaster before it closes. Applejack agrees to cover her classes if Rainbow Dash chaperones Granny Smith and her elderly relatives on their Las Pegasus vacation, instructing her to keep them from overexerting themselves. Rainbow Dash tries to make the grannies rest, but they sneak off. She spends the day interfering with their activities. After apologizing, the grannies laugh at Applejack's overprotectiveness and invite Rainbow Dash to ride the coaster with their VIP passes.
Background
Denny Lu and Mike Myhre directed the episode, with Jim Miller supervising. Most of the screenplay was written at the Mirage casino resort in Las Vegas by Gillian M. Berrow. Rick and Morty appear as ponies waiting in line for the Wild Blue Yonder. Rick has his lab coat, blue spiky hair, and grey fur; Morty has fur matching his yellow shirt and an anxious expression. Rick's cutie mark is a chemistry flask. The cameo was first noticed by a Reddit user, and a YouTuber had envisioned it before the episode aired.
Broadcast and reception
The episode aired on April 14, 2018, on Discovery Family. Corey Plante of Inverse thought negatively of its lesson, stating that Friendship Is Magic can be even more "fucked-up" than Rick and Morty. Many writers found the cameo bizarre and unexpected. Dan Seddon of Digital Spy noted the tonal contrasts between the shows. Nicole Herviou of Comic Book Resources called it "a rather random" place for the cameo. Fan response was polarised: some were offended by a children's animation presenting Rick and Morty in pony form, while others criticized those complainers for not appreciating the homage.
