In the episode, Rainbow Dash becomes devastated when Twilight Sparkle informs her that the next Daring Do novel has been delayed by two additional months, pushing the release date to six months total. Convinced that author A.K. Yearling must be too busy with mundane tasks to focus on writing, Rainbow decides to track her down and offer assistance. The Mane Six travel to Yearling's home, finding it ransacked, and soon witness three stallions break in. A.K. Yearling throws off her disguise to reveal she is actually Daring Do, the protagonist of her own novels. Dr. Caballeron steals a golden ring and escapes, leaving the Mane Six stunned.

Rainbow Dash eagerly volunteers to help Daring Do retrieve the artifact, but her nervous excitement repeatedly sabotages the mission. During a nighttime confrontation, Rainbow inadvertently alerts the villain Ahuizotl to Daring's presence, leading to Daring's capture. The Mane Six follow Ahuizotl to his fortress, where they discover he plans to use the golden ring in a ritual to bring oppressive heat. The group works together to disrupt the ceremony while Rainbow rescues Daring Do from a piranha-filled death trap. Daring admits she intentionally got captured to access the location but needed Rainbow's help to lift heavy artifacts. After the rings are removed, the fortress collapses, thwarting Ahuizotl. Daring Do thanks Rainbow before departing to finish her novel, and later Rainbow receives the completed book with cover art depicting both Daring Do and Rainbow Dash.
