Eternal Return (video game)
A battle royale with MOBA mechanics on Lumia Island.
Last updated
A player chooses a character and fights against 21 other players on an island called Lumia, with the last player standing winning.[1] Nimble Neuron developed Eternal Return, and Kakao Games handled its publishing.[1]
Geography and history
It officially launched on July 20, 2023.[2] On the island, the AGLAIA organization runs experiments on human subjects aiming to produce a superior human race.[3] A 2021 agreement saw Kakao Games become the publisher for the Korean market.[4] For the Korean client's launch in 2021, a promotional music video with K-pop group aespa was produced.[4]
The publishing deal with Kakao Games concluded in July 2024.[4]
What the cited sources add
According to localization developer Travis “Aesop” Walton, the game’s open beta in November 2020 attracted tens of thousands of players, but numbers dwindled due to the game’s rough feel.[5] Aesop stated that the game is “a mix of a Battle Royale, a MOBA, a survival game and an anime TV show”.[5] The game is the 3D PC version of its 2D mobile predecessor, Black Survival.[6] The map shrinks as the game progresses, with zones becoming off-limit areas that deal damage.[5][6]
The Lone Wolf event mode pits 18 solo players against each other with altered rules and a quicker tempo.[7][8] In matchmaking for that mode, each competitor gets two Revival Kits that can be used up to Night 3.[7]
