Racesafe Marshals Association

Supplies marshals for major UK motorcycle championships.

The Racesafe Marshals Association supplies marshals for the British Superbike Championship, the UK rounds of MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship, plus other British motorcycle races. It was set up after talks with the newly formed Motor Circuit Racing Control Board in October 1995. The first training day took place at Donington Park in February 1996, and Racesafe marshalled its first meeting there that April. The association was created a year after the MCRCB, which launched the British Superbike Championship in 1995 to run a more commercial series. Previously, the Auto-Cycle Union oversaw national races, with local clubs providing marshals. The MCRCB wanted a new marshals’ group to guarantee consistent, high standards across all rounds, a goal Racesafe still holds. Its structure borrowed from UK car racing marshalling: compulsory training, repeated every two years until 2011, then every three years for experienced marshals who meet event requirements. Online training and testing began in 2013 for veteran marshals. Racesafe also introduced mandatory uniforms, membership cards, training record cards, and attendance cards for novices. Novices must complete 12 marshalling days and a second training day to advance.
