Reception

Critical reception for Ride 4 was split depending on the platform. On Metacritic, the Windows and Xbox One versions got positive marks, while the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 editions earned mixed scores. Over on OpenCritic, the game saw fair approval, with 58% of critics recommending it. Shacknews urged motorcycle racing fans to put it on their shortlist. GamingBolt liked the visuals but felt the content and controls were a decade behind, adding that veterans would enjoy it while beginners might find it brutally tough. Hardcore Gamer called it the best in the series and praised its challenging nature. A viral PlayStation 5 gameplay video highlighted its photorealistic graphics. Eurogamer, reviewing after that video, agreed the game looked impressive but noted the photorealistic quality is more limited during actual play—for instance, the camera is positioned less realistically for comfort, with the more realistic angle reserved for replays. Push Square, also reviewing the PS5 version, found it frustrating and disappointing outside of its strong DualSense use. They criticized the lack of innovation over the PS4 version, real-money transactions, a boring campaign, and the absence of a tutorial and local multiplayer.
