The Battle of Quebec.

The Battle of Quebec was the NHL rivalry between the Montreal Canadiens and the Quebec Nordiques, from the 1979-80 season to 1994-95. The teams met five times in the playoffs, and the Canadiens won three of those series.

Beyond the ice

The rivalry extended to politics, with the two clubs becoming symbols of rival parties, and to beer distribution, since the teams were owned by competing breweries. A 1984 playoff meeting produced the Good Friday Massacre, a game with multiple brawls. The rivalry ended when the Nordiques left Quebec City in 1995 to become the Colorado Avalanche.
