Playing career
P. J. Stock began his junior career with the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL, where for a short time he played alongside Alexandre Daigle. After finishing junior hockey, he enrolled at St. Francis Xavier University in 1996. Never selected in the NHL draft, Stock signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers in 1997. He split the next three seasons between the Rangers and their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack, and in 1997 he netted the Wolf Pack's first home goal at the Hartford Civic Center. Before the 2000–01 campaign, he inked a free agent deal with the Montreal Canadiens, appearing in 20 games before being dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Gino Odjick. Following a short stint back in New York, the Boston Bruins picked him up in the waiver draft. After two full seasons in Boston, he was assigned to the Providence farm team and later loaned to the Philadelphia Phantoms. Across 235 NHL games, Stock recorded five goals, 26 points, and 523 penalty minutes. His playing career ended when he suffered an eye injury during an AHL contest between Springfield and Philadelphia while on loan to the Phantoms.
Broadcasting career
P. J. Stock got his start in Montreal media hosting his own radio show, The Stock Exchange, on Team 990. On television, he delivered sports updates during Montreal News at 6 on CBMT (CBC) in a segment called Stock Talk. Thanks to being bilingual, he became a regular on the French-language sports debate show L'Antichambre on RDS. He also worked as a game and studio analyst during the first season of The NHL on OLN. Stock joined Hockey Night in Canada on CBC in 2007 as a panelist on The Hot Stove with Ron MacLean. The next season, he moved to handling scores and highlights, and by 2010 he was an in-studio analyst alongside Kelly Hrudey. On December 18, 2009, he hosted The Intermission with Tony Marinaro and The Stock Exchange for the last time. In February 2010, he became part of the morning show on CHOM-FM in Montreal with Chantal Desjardins and Pete Marier, but left after a year. Stock competed in the second season of CBC's Battle of the Blades, skating with Russian partner Violetta Afanasieva. In 2012, he appeared with Isabelle Brasseur in a Depend advertisement that supported the Canadian Cancer Society and the BC Cancer Foundation's Underwear Affair. When Rogers Media took over national NHL rights in November 2013, Stock joined Sportsnet full-time. He was let go from Hockey Night in Canada in June 2016 due to budget cuts. For over a decade, he has remained an analyst on RDS. As of 2020, Stock works as a producer on CBC's Battle of the Blades and hosts his own podcast, StockTalk.
