Tenma's Scalpel
A simple blade that cuts through lies to save the most precious thing: a human life.
Tenma's Scalpel is not merely a surgical instrument but the defining symbol of Dr. Kenzo Tenma's unwavering moral compass within the Monster universe. This standard medical tool, used throughout his career at the East German hospital and later in his flight across Europe, represents the sanctity of human life above all political or personal agendas. It is the physical manifestation of his oath to save every life without exception, a principle that sets him against the cold pragmatism of the state.

Lore & Background
As Tenma flees across the borders of Europe, hunted by the very government he once served and the creature he saved, the scalpel remains his only constant companion. It is used not just in emergency field conditions but as a reminder of why he cannot stop running or fighting. Every incision made with it reinforces his belief that no life is expendable, a philosophy that stands in stark contrast to the utilitarian cruelty of those hunting him.
Reader's Guide
This scalpel functions as a standard precision surgical tool, designed for making clean incisions in delicate procedures. In the hands of Dr. Tenma, it transcends its mechanical purpose to become an extension of his will and conscience. It operates on the principle that every life holds equal value, regardless of status or origin. When wielded by Tenma, it is used to stabilize critical patients, remove foreign objects, and perform complex surgeries even in hostile or resource-scarce environments. Only Dr. Kenzo Tenma wields this specific blade with such profound intent. While other surgeons possess similar tools, none carry the same historical burden or moral weight. It is not a weapon of war, but a shield against death.
