Berlin (Spanish TV series)

Berlin (titled *Money Heist: Berlin* in English and *La casa de papel: Berlín* in Spanish) is a Spanish television series created by Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato for Netflix. It serves as a prequel to *Money Heist*, centering on Andrés de Fonollosa—known as Berlin—in the years prior to the original show’s first two seasons. The series debuted on 29 December 2023 with eight episodes, and each season is released as a standalone miniseries.

The plot takes place many years before *Money Heist*, following Berlin as he leads a criminal gang—Keila, Damián, Cameron, Bruce, and Roi—in a heist to steal €44 million in jewels and frame the security provider. Set primarily in Paris, the plan becomes complicated when Berlin, while surveilling the victim he intends to frame, falls in love with the victim’s wife.

The main cast includes Pedro Alonso as Berlin, Samantha Siqueiros as Camille, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, Michelle Jenner as Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, Joel Sánchez as Bruce, and Maria Isabel “Masi” Rodríguez as Susi. Supporting roles feature Itziar Ituño as Raquel Murillo, Najwa Nimri as Alicia Sierra, Miko Jarry as Olivier, Martín Aslan as Alain, Belén López as Eris (Limoncello Lady), and Álvaro Morte as The Professor in a guest appearance in season two.

The first season is titled *Berlin and the Jewels of Paris* (2023), and the second season, *Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine*, was released on 15 May 2026 after being renewed on 19 February 2024.

Production began in late November 2021, when Netflix announced the spin-off for a tentative 2023 release, with Pedro Alonso reprising his role and creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato overseeing the project. Casting for co-stars Michelle Jenner, Begoña Vargas, Tristán Ulloa, Julio Peña Fernández, and Joel Sánchez was announced on 28 September 2022. In March 2023, Itziar Ituño and Najwa Nimri were confirmed to reprise their *Money Heist* roles. Filming started in October 2022 in Paris, France, and continued in Madrid, Spain. The creators aimed for a “lighter” tone than their recent projects, incorporating more comedic elements and using a wider 2:1 screen ratio to enhance the scenic experience. The second season began filming by 23 January 2025 and includes the return of the Professor, Berlin’s brother.
