Tieria's earliest memories are not of home but of a battlefield. He was among a group of children conscripted into a militia in a nameless, perpetually warring stretch of the African continent, where survival meant learning to pull a trigger before you learned to read. By the time Celestial Being's recruiters find him, he has already taken lives he cannot name and has built a wall of affective silence around himself so thick that even his own pain registers as a distant, muffled sound. He does not flinch at violence; he simply does not feel it, which is worse than flinching.

His integration into Celestial Being is less a recruitment and more a rescue, though he would never use that word. Assigned the Gundam Exia—a sleek, blue-and-white frame whose design language echoes the other three first-season Gundams—Tieria proves immediately lethal in the cockpit. His piloting style is economical, almost surgical: no wasted motion, no dramatic flair, just the minimum force applied at the maximum point. Crewmates note that he fights as though each battle is the last, not out of bravado but out of a quiet, exhausted certainty that he will not survive the next one.

The bond he forms with Setsuna F. Seiei becomes the axis of his character. Setsuna, with his unyielding idealism and his habit of declaring grand causes, is everything Tieria is not: unafraid to want, unashamed to hope. Tieria mirrors him, follows him, and in the second season pilots the upgraded Exia Repair II alongside him in the 00 Raiser, a two-pilot mobile suit that physically embodies their partnership. Yet the relationship is not simple admiration.

Tieria resents the ease with which Setsuna forgives himself, and he struggles to understand why a boy who has killed no one is allowed to be the hero while he, who has filled a room with blood, must earn the right to stand beside him. By the series' climax, that question resolves not into a neat answer but into a choice: Tieria decides, for the first time, that his hands are his own and that what he does with them is a decision, not a sentence.

A former child soldier from a war-torn African region, he is recruited into the organization's pilot corps and assigned the Gundam Exia. His arc across both seasons is a slow reclamation of self. In the first season he is defined by absence—absence of fear, absence of grief, absence of the small human reactions his crewmates expect. Setsuna F. Seiei becomes his anchor and his mirror: Setsuna's loud, certain idealism forces Tieria to confront the fact that he has not chosen his violence, and that choice is the one thing he has never been offered. Their partnership deepens into something that is neither friendship nor mentorship but a mutual recognition of two people who have been broken by the same world and are trying, in different registers, to build something that is not broken.

In the second season, piloting the Exia Repair II alongside Setsuna in the two-seat 00 Raiser, Tieria's role shifts from lone operative to co-equal partner. The physical design of the suit—two pilots, one frame—externalizes what their relationship has become: neither can function fully without the other. His moral position crystallizes here: he is not fighting because he believes in a grand cause, but because the specific people beside him are worth the cost. That is a smaller, more fragile justification than Setsuna's, and it is, Tieria slowly learns, enough.
