Career

Jacob Duran got his start running a boxing and kickboxing school in Fairfield, California. Before moving into professional boxing and MMA, he trained and developed early IKF amateur champions like Randy "Buzzman" Bussart, Mike "Mohamid" Duran, John "Psyco" Parker, and Andy "The Sandman" Sanchez. Duran has also appeared as a cutman in the Rocky film series. In Rocky Balboa, he played the cutman for Mason "The Line" Dixon, Rocky’s opponent. He played himself in Creed, where during Adonis Creed’s fight with "Pretty" Ricky Conlan, Creed loses vision in one eye from swelling. When the ringside doctor asks how many fingers he’s holding up, Duran taps the answer on Creed’s neck so the fight can continue. His other clients include Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, Andre Ward, and Tyson Fury. In the UFC, Duran worked top fights with fighters like Mirko Filipović, Lyoto Machida, Forrest Griffin, and Cain Velasquez. Many UFC fighters publicly said they were disappointed, calling him one of the best cutmen in the business. Duran also made a cameo in Kevin James’ sports comedy Here Comes the Boom.
