Playing career
Kris Foucault first appeared on the hockey map as a youth, participating in the 2003 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament while skating for the Calgary Junior Flames. He later spent a season with the Canmore Eagles in the AJHL before moving on to major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League (WHL), where he played from 2006–07 through 2010–11. Over 195 games in the WHL, he tallied 56 goals and 55 assists for 111 points.
The Minnesota Wild signed Foucault to a three-year entry-level contract on May 27, 2011. He made his NHL debut on February 14, 2012, becoming the 13th rookie to suit up for the Wild during the 2011–12 season. During the 2013–14 campaign, he was sent down to the team’s AHL affiliate, the Iowa Wild. With no recall opportunity from Minnesota, he notched 11 goals and 22 points in 58 games with Iowa. The Wild did not extend a qualifying offer, and Foucault entered free agency that offseason.
On July 3, 2014, he signed his first European contract, a one-year deal with the Vienna Capitals of the Austrian EBEL. He finished the season ranked 13th in league scoring, with 22 goals and 25 assists in 54 games. For the 2015–16 season, he moved to Switzerland, splitting time between the ZSC Lions of the top-flight National League A and the second-tier GC Küsnacht Lions. That December, he won the Spengler Cup as a member of Team Canada.
In May 2016, Foucault signed a two-year contract with the Grizzlys Wolfsburg of Germany’s Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). After three seasons with the club, he left as a free agent on March 8, 2019. He remained in the DEL, signing a one-year deal with ERC Ingolstadt on April 15, 2019. Following a productive year there, he moved to Eisbären Berlin on a one-year contract on November 24, 2020.
