Sillimanite, also known as fibrolite, is an aluminosilicate mineral with the formula Al2SiO5. It is one of three polymorphs, alongside andalusite and kyanite, and serves as an index mineral for high-temperature metamorphism. Named after chemist Benjamin Silliman, it was first described in 1824 from Chester, Connecticut.
