Mudville Nine
A two-year homage to a famous baseball poem.
The Mudville Nine were a minor league baseball team that played in Stockton, California, as a member of the California League. The name was a direct homage to the fictional town in Ernest Thayer's poem 'Casey at the Bat'. The Stockton Ports adopted this name for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, then returned to the Ports name in 2002. During those two years, the Mudville Nine were the Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in the National League.
