The Miami Heat and the Nets have met three times in the NBA playoffs, and the Heat won all three series. In the 2006 Eastern Conference semifinals the Heat beat the New Jersey Nets in five games on the way to their first NBA championship. In the 2014 Eastern Conference semifinals they beat the Brooklyn Nets 4–1, after the Nets had won all four regular-season meetings.
Background
Brooklyn won all four regular-season games in 2013–14, each of them close, but Miami won Game 1 of the semifinals 107–86 for its first win over the Nets that season. In Game 4 LeBron James scored a Heat franchise playoff record 49 points in a 102–96 win. In Game 5 the Nets led by eight with five minutes left, then went scoreless for four and a half minutes as the Heat ran off 12 straight points; a late steal by James from Joe Johnson saved the game and sent Miami to its fourth consecutive Eastern Conference finals.
