Background
Starting quarterback Bob Griese broke his ankle in week 5 and 38-year-old backup Earl Morrall started the rest of the regular season; Griese returned in the AFC Championship Game and started Super Bowl VII. Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris became the first teammates to each rush for 1,000 yards in a season. The defence, nicknamed the "No-Name Defense" by Dallas coach Tom Landry, was led by Nick Buoniconti. Nine Dolphins were selected to the Pro Bowl.
