Production
In 2010, Joey Ansah and Christian Howard released a short proof-of-concept film called Street Fighter: Legacy on YouTube, driven by personal passion. Capcom gave the project the green light after a 2012 San Diego Comic-Con announcement. A Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise production funds, but it was halted on April 17, 2013, when private investors provided the needed money. Filming started on July 14, 2013, in Simeonovo, Sofia, Bulgaria, and finished on August 24, 2013. Patrick Gill composed the music, with contributions from Ryan Ansah and Daniel Braine. In a Gamereactor interview on August 20, 2013, Ansah described Ryu as competing only with himself, while Ken is driven by rivalry and struggles with his father, explaining how Ken ended up in Gouken’s dojo. On November 1, 2013, Content sold the worldwide online rights for a short first window to a major global channel. Capcom and Machinima.com announced on March 14, 2014, that the series would debut on Machinima’s main channel.
Reception
Assassin's Fist has been acclaimed as the best and most faithful adaptation of the franchise, in contrast to the poor reception of previous live-action Street Fighter films. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 94% audience approval rating. IGN gave it a positive review, rating it 8.7/10, stating it was more authentic to the franchise than either of the larger-budgeted Street Fighter feature films and one of the best live-action video-game adaptations overall. Shehzaan Abdulla from Continue-Play scored it 8/10, praising its balance of in-jokes and fan service with down-to-earth storytelling.
