Overview
Black Mask 2 is largely unrelated in story to the original film, following the protagonist as he searches for a cure for his supersoldier powers while being tracked by his creator, a giant brain. The film has a fantastical superhero tone set in a futuristic city, with a plot involving a mutative DNA bomb and human-animal hybrid professional wrestlers. Unlike the original, which was in Cantonese, Black Mask 2 was primarily produced in English, later released dubbed into Cantonese in Hong Kong in 2003 with voice direction by Chapman To and narration by Andy Lau.
Plot
Kan Fung, who escaped from the organization that gave him superhuman abilities, seeks a geneticist to cure him and adopts the moniker Black Mask. Lang, another high-ranking member of the organization, is hired to kill him. Wrestling promoter King prepares an event featuring wrestlers Claw, Iguana, Chameleon, Snake, and Wolf. When the wrestler Hellraiser (Ross) is attacked by Iguana, who transforms into an iguana-human hybrid, Black Mask intervenes. Ross is severely injured. Black Mask pursues Iguana to a tower; when Iguana falls, Black Mask tries to save him, but Iguana states he is not a monster, releases his grip, and falls to his death. Chameleon, Iguana's grieving girlfriend, witnesses his remains revert to human form. The wrestlers were experimented upon by Dr. Moloch, who injected them with animal DNA; they seek revenge for Iguana. Chameleon, whose body can blend with surroundings, stalks Black Mask unclothed. Black Mask locates geneticist Dr. Marco Leung and attempts anonymous contact. He befriends Ross's young son Raymond. During an investigation, Black Mask scuffles with Chameleon and is injected with animal DNA by Moloch, transforming into a tiger-hybrid. He locates Dr. Leung, who identifies a chemical that could cure the tiger DNA. Black Mask retrieves the chemical during another confrontation, takes the cure, but experiences a reaction causing violent behavior before staggering into the city in a stupor.
