Genetic analysis supports treating Oxystele as its own genus rather than a subgenus of Diloma.[1] Marine gastropods belonging to the family Trochidae are classified under the genus Oxystele, which was established by R. A. Philippi in 1847.[1][2][3] Genetic evidence supports treating Oxystele as a distinct genus rather than a subgenus of Diloma.[1]
