Biology and range

The spire whorl has three rounded carinations, with concave interspaces containing spiral cords.[1] GBIF holds three occurrence records for this species.[4] Seven carinations on the body whorl become progressively lower and more closely spaced as they approach the base.[1] Between the carinations on the body whorl, the concave interspaces contain spiral lirae whose count ranges from six down to two.[1]

A wide umbilicus, which has roughly eight spiral lirae, is bordered by the lowest carina.[1] Fine microscopic radial scratches and irregular radial incisions cut across the spiral elements.[1] The aperture is round, featuring a smooth interior and an outer edge that is scalloped.[1]

What the specialist sources record

The World Register of Marine Species lists Charisma carinata as an accepted species in the family Trochidae, order Trochida.[3] GBIF also accepts this taxon, placing it in the class Gastropoda and order Trochida.[4]
