Biology and range

Members of Cerithiidae live in marine, brackish, and freshwater environments.[1] Three subfamilies are recognized in the taxonomy of Bouchet & Rocroi (2005): Alabininae, Bittiinae, and Cerithiinae.[3] Cerithiinae has synonyms including Rhinoclavinae Gründel, 1982 and Colininae Golikov & Starobogatov, 1987.[3] Bandel (2006) placed Bittiinae at its own family level named Diastomatidae.[4]

Cerithiidae belongs to the superfamily Cerithioidea.[4]
