Release
Madden NFL Mobile first appeared in a limited Canadian launch on August 12, 2014. It hit iOS and Android globally the same day Madden NFL 15 arrived on consoles. A major August 2015 update brought achievements, league tweaks, a new hub, extra Live Events, and improved balance. Seasonal updates followed for Madden NFL 17 and 18. For the 2018–19 season, it became Madden NFL Overdrive, reverted to Madden Mobile for 2019–20, and was renamed Madden NFL 21 Mobile for 2020–21. Since then, the game’s title has updated its year with each new season.
Reception
Madden NFL Mobile received mixed reviews. On Metacritic, the game scored 68%. Pocket Gamer rated it 7 out of 10, stating that it had come a long way but could go further, and was worth a look for fans. Phandroid noted that despite annoyances of microtransactions, there was a good game beneath the monetization.
