Gas Town
The rusted fortress where fuel is refined and alliances are forged in the Wasteland.
Gas Town is a rusted industrial complex built around ancient fuel pumps and storage tanks, an independent settlement in the Wasteland ruled by the People Eater. It is not a military outpost of Immortan Joe's Citadel, nor is it located on the edge of the salt flats. Instead, it stands as a separate fortress where fuel is refined and traded, with its own guards and workers controlling access to the volatile resource.
Lore & Background
The atmosphere within Gas Town is thick with the acrid smell of burning rubber and leaked fuel, a sensory reminder of the danger that lurks beneath every mile of road. As an independent settlement, it operates under the rule of the People Eater, who maintains an alliance with Immortan Joe but commands his own guards and workers. Unlike the Citadel's patrols, Gas Town's role is primarily industrial: refining and distributing fuel. The convoy's journey passes through Gas Town before heading into the canyon and then onto the salt flats, making it a key stop for resupply rather than a final checkpoint.
Reader's Guide
Gas Town is situated on the perimeter of the vast, treacherous salt flats, acting as the final barrier between the organized territories and the chaotic open wasteland. Its geography is defined by a cluster of massive, corroded storage tanks and ancient pump stations that have been retrofitted with makeshift fortifications. The primary resource here is refined fuel, which is strictly rationed by Immortan Joe's forces. Water is also present but often mixed with the petroleum runoff, making it dangerous to consume without filtration. This scarcity makes Gas Town a critical strategic asset; controlling it means controlling who can travel across the salt flats. For the plot, this location serves as the last major obstacle for the Furiosa-led convoy before they are forced into the open expanse where the War Boys conduct their final, desperate assault. It highlights the regime's grip on resources and sets the stage for the high-speed chase that defines the journey.
