Playing career
Vladimír Országh got his start in international hockey as a kid, playing in the 1991 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament for a Poprad-based team. The New York Islanders picked him in the fifth round, 106th overall, of the 1995 NHL Draft, and he made his NHL debut in 1997. Over the next three years, he skated in 34 games for the Islanders, putting up five points on three goals and two assists. After the 1999-2000 season, he became a free agent and moved to Sweden to play for Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. That year was a breakout for him: he scored 23 goals and added 13 assists for 36 points. The Nashville Predators noticed and signed him. With Nashville, he racked up 105 points (47 goals, 58 assists) and helped the club reach its first-ever playoff berth. Across his six NHL seasons, he wore number 33 and played both left and right wing. On December 30, 2005, the St. Louis Blues claimed him off waivers. A knee injury forced him to sit out the entire 2006-2007 season.
