Playing career
Pratt entered the NHL after being picked by the Hartford Whalers in the fifth round of the 1993 draft, 115th overall, out of the Portland Winter Hawks. He first played in the league during the 1996–97 season, which turned out to be Hartford’s final year before the franchise relocated. Pratt moved with the team to Carolina and became a Hurricane. On June 24, 2000, the Hurricanes sent him to the Colorado Avalanche alongside a first-round pick, two second-round picks, and another second-rounder originally from Philadelphia, in exchange for Sandis Ozolinsh and a second-round pick. A year later, on June 24, 2001, the Avalanche—fresh off winning the Stanley Cup—traded Pratt to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a sixth-round pick. With Tampa Bay, Pratt helped the Lightning capture the Stanley Cup in the 2003–04 season, giving him his second championship ring. He signed with the Buffalo Sabres as a free agent on November 1, 2007, and during his time there, he regularly played alongside defenseman Dmitri Kalinin. On September 23, 2008, the Dallas Stars invited Pratt to their training camp as a free agent, but they let him go just three days later. Unable to find another NHL deal, he joined Amur Khabarovsk of the KHL on October 10, 2008. After two seasons in Russia, he became a free agent again and signed a one-year contract with Lukko of Finland’s SM-Liiga on November 8, 2010.
