Barajas was originally signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks as an amateur free agent on December 23, 1996. He made his MLB debut for the Diamondbacks on September 25, 1999, against the San Francisco Giants. He hit his first career home run on October 3, 1999, against the San Diego Padres. In 2001, he homered off Mike Mussina in Game 5 of the World Series. He later played for the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Pittsburgh Pirates. After his playing career, he managed in the Padres' minor league system, served as bench coach for the Padres, and became interim manager in 2019. He was later named the Padres' catching and quality control coach. On November 27, 2022, he was hired by the Miami Marlins as quality assurance coach for 2023, and was fired on October 2, 2024, alongside the entire Marlins coaching staff. Barajas was a coach for the Los Angeles Angels' Double-A affiliate, the Rocket City Trash Pandas in 2025. He was named quality control coach for the Texas Rangers prior to the 2026 season.
