The Salt Lake City Angels were a minor league baseball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah, that served as the Triple-A affiliate of the California Angels from 1971 through 1974. The club played in the Pacific Coast League and won the league pennant in their inaugural season.
History
After the 1969 season, the Salt Lake City Bees moved back up to Triple-A in the Pacific Coast League. Two years later, in 1971, the team became the Salt Lake City Angels, serving as the top affiliate for the California Angels through 1974.
That first season, they took the PCL’s southern division with a 78-68 record, then beat the Tacoma Twins three games to one for the league pennant. In 1975, the club was renamed the Salt Lake City Gulls, but it stayed the Angels’ highest-level farm team until 1981. The Gulls swept the Hawaii Islanders in 1979 to win their final league championship.
